A warm welcome to the Baptist Blogosphere to Jim Gordon over at Living Wittily. Jim has made an enthusiastic start with summaries of his reading of Hauerwas' new commentary on Matthew and a promise to offer online justification for his book purchases (a much braver man than I). But for an introduction to the blog, its title and focus see this post on the phrase "to serve God wittily in the tangle of our minds'. Keep up the good work Jim.

Since the beginning of March, nearly three months ago now, I have been moving into and through a period of very significant personal growth. The sabbatical has focused it, but I am glad to be able to note in myself that the process began some time before the sabbatical began - because, inevitably, it is easy to feel that the present experience of well-being might be no more than the glow of sabbatical freedom. I am convinced it goes deeper. ...

... So - over the coming weeks I shall be posting new reflections on the work I am doing day to day, and I shall be drawing back on resources gathered over the last few months. I hope there will be at least a few people out there who will want to share some of the journey with me, and I look forward to comments from others who find a resonance between their own experiences and mine.

Welcome, Richard, to the blogosphere!

Who will be next, I wonder?

One or two new blogs have come my way in the last week. E-mergent Kiwi (he is a Baptist and he blogs) is a blog in the "emerging" genre and not to be confused with the kiwi of the tall skinny variety. Go and take a look for some reflections on emerging church / theology in the NZ context.

Catriona Gorton is a former student at NBC - she may hate me for doing this, but this is to let you know that she has also started her own blog: A Skinny Fairtrade Latte in the Food Court of Life: Ramblings, Reflections & Rubbish! Welcome Catriona!

By the wonder of the "comments" facility, I have now come across two more blogs by Baptists - one UK and one Australia. Andy Goodliff is a youth worker at a Baptist Church in Stevenage and RE teacher. Simon Carey Holt is based at Whitley College in Melbourne but is presently on study leave in the USA. I met Simon while on sabbatical at Whitley in 2003. I have added both to my blogroll and look forward to interacting with these blogs in due course.
I was so pleased to see that my good friend, Frank Rees, has delivered on the promise that he made to me at the BWA Congress and has started his own blog.

to be frank
thinking honestly about life and faith

Frank teaches doctrine at Whitley College in Melbourne. He is a committed Baptist and a "fair dinkum" theologian. The blog is sure to deliver (look at the existing posts for confirmation) on the promise to think honestly about life and faith. I have added it to my "Baptist Blogs" blogroll here. Welcome Frank!
